Size Table and Tips How to Take Care of Socks and Stockings

Hosiery and sock care handbook

Did you put your socks in the washing machine and they came out a size or two smaller? Oh no, the sock fairy got a heatstroke! We have some tips for you on how to care for your socks and tights so that they continue to look great in the future!

Size guide

How to find the right size?

When it comes to hosiery, the most important thing is to find the right size for you. Tights or stockings that are too large or too small will start to sag when you walk. But which size should you actually choose? You can determine the right size from the table on the back of the package, which shows height and weight ranges. Here is a handy size guide for you!

How to find the right size for plus-size?

For plus-size, hip and waist measurements are key to choosing the most comfortable tights. Note that usually as the size increases, the wearer’s height in the table also increases, but for example, the larger sizes in the EXTRA series can also be worn by shorter women.

Size guide

Sizes can vary in other countries. It’s one way in Europe, and completely different in the UK and USA! Here is a little cheat sheet for you if you’re looking for which sizes correspond to each other.

How to care for socks?

Socks should not be washed at temperatures over 40 degrees! Always follow the care instructions on the label, but generally, cotton socks, knee-highs, and tights should be washed at 40 degrees. Socks definitely don’t like the dryer; to maintain their shape and size, they should be hung on a clothesline the old-fashioned way. Woolen socks, including merino wool, should ideally be washed by hand. If you put them in the machine, wash them at 40 degrees and do not use the spin cycle. Do the same for angora wool and brushed acrylic socks.

How to care for hosiery?

Since tights and stockings are delicate, it is generally recommended to wash them by hand. The best temperature for this is up to 40 degrees. If you still want to machine wash, use the gentlest cycle and choose a cold water wash. When washing in a machine, you should definitely use a laundry bag to prevent damage to the hosiery. To avoid snagging, turn the tights inside out before washing! Following these tips will ensure a much longer life for your hosiery!
